02Why buyers want it
Creative businesses hold finished work and the process behind it: the drafts, versions, code and footage that show how something good gets made. Original material with clear rights is scarce, and AI companies pay for it.
03What to check first
- Client ownership. Commissioned work usually belongs to the client.
- Third-party licences. Music, stock, fonts and plugins were licensed for your use only.
- Releases. Footage of people needs releases that cover this kind of use.
04What's usually licensable, and what isn't
05Get the free guide
The Data Licensing Guide for Media, Games and Creative Studios covers it in a PDF for studios, publishers and agencies: what can be licensed, what rights decide the scope, and Mercor's four creative listings, with a worked example and the questions to ask before you sign.
06Before you apply
- List the work you own outright, by project.
- Check client contracts for assignment clauses.
- Strip third-party licensed elements.
- Check talent and location releases.
This isn't legal advice.
07Check which programmes you're likely to match
Our free fit check asks about your size, location, records and tools, then shows which programmes you're likely to match. The programme decides.
08Questions people ask
Can an agency license work it made for clients?
Usually not without the client: most agency contracts assign the work. Your own design systems, tools and internal work are different.
What about licensed music, stock and fonts?
Leave them out. You licensed them for your projects, not for onward licensing.
